We have had many successful hearing loss programs that have transformed lives and raised a greater understanding to our chapter members. Our past initiatives have focused on raising awareness, providing access to hearing aids, and offering support to individuals with hearing impairments. Through our dedicated efforts and outreach, we have empowered individuals to overcome communication barriers and fully engage in their daily lives. Our commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by hearing loss drives us to create even more impactful programs in the future. Together, let’s continue to change lives and create a world where everyone can experience the beauty of sound.
Toni Iacolucci and Peggy Ellertsen, HLAA Communication Access in Health Care (CAHC) program
Legal mandates under the Affordable Care Act, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act protect the rights of people with hearing loss to receive aids and services that ensure safe and effective communication in their healthcare. However, the process of implementing communication accommodations often places an undue burden on patients to create communication plans with their medical providers. This presentation will cover common barriers to communication access within our healthcare systems and propose a roadmap for patients who wish to implement a skillful, resilient approach to advocacy, both on their own behalf and for greater change within our healthcare systems.
Real-time captions will be provided for this program. All are welcome!
